This invention provides a preform heating system comprising a control mechanism which supports a preform (50) and regulates the state of rotation of a support member (20) being moved through a heating region to regulate the direction of the preform (50) to a heating apparatus. The control mechanism comprises a first magnetic pole member (122a) disposed along at least a part of the heating region and a second magnetic pole member (24) fixed to the support member (20), being moved through the heating region, at its site facing the first magnetic pole member (122a). The support member (20) moved through the heating region is brought to a state of rotation determined by a relationship between the polarity of the first magnetic pole member (122a) and the polarity of the second magnetic pole member (24). The above constitution can provide a preform heating system which can easily realize both the movement of the preform through the heating region while rotating the preform without causing any significant sacrifice of efficient heating and the movement of the preform through the heating region without the rotation of the preform.
