PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time and efforts required for setting work of a remote monitoring system. SOLUTION: A monitoring apparatus 3 includes a connection detection unit 8 which sends a connection signal when a device 2 to be monitored is connected to a port 6; and a port group acquisition unit 9 for acquiring information about a combination of ports 6 to which the device 2 to be monitored is connected as port group information within a predetermined period of time on the basis of the connection signal sent by the connection detection unit 8, and a monitoring server 5 includes: a port correspondence table 12 indicating a relationship between the combination of the ports 6 and a class of the device 2 to be connected; a connection information acquisition unit 13 which refers to the port correspondence table 12 to specify the class of the device 2 to be monitored corresponding to the port group information acquired by the port group acquisition unit 9; and a device-to-be-monitored table updating unit 15 for updating a device-to-be-monitored table 14 on the basis of the port group information acquired by the port group acquisition unit 9 and the class of the device 2 to be monitored specified by the connection information acquisition unit 13.
