PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a target subject within a monitor even after performing an area zoom operation. SOLUTION: When an area zoom frame 501 is designated out of videos displayed on a screen 122A in an area zoom function and when the ratio of the dimensions of the screen 122A with respect to the area zoom frame 501 exceeds a limiting magnification, the limiting magnification is adopted as a relative zoom magnification (a relative magnification indicating how much zooming is to be performed with respect to a current lens magnification). When the ratio of the dimensions is below the limiting magnification, at the same time, the ratio of the magnification is adopted as the relative zoom magnification. The limiting magnification is preset on the basis of the deviation in the center of a given area, in which, e.g., area zooming is performed, (deviation from the center of an object Ob).
