Provided are thermal transfer donor elements comprising a support coated with a thermally transferable layer. The thermally transferable layer comprises polycarboxylic acid, a polyhydroxy compound, a vanadium catalyst, and a laser dye. Thermal transfer imaging processes are also described. The donor elements can be used to make colour filter elements, for example, for liquid crystal display devices.
