PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compatible preventing face detection accuracy from being reduced and preventing a processing speed from being decelerated, in an imaging apparatus which performs setting of photographing operation using a face detection result. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: an imaging unit 102 which performs photoelectric conversion upon a subject image and photographs an image; a photographing mode setting unit 111 for setting a photographing mode during which a subject is to be photographed; and resizing unit 102 for resizing the image in accordance with the photographing mode set by the photographing mode setting unit; and a face detection unit 121 for detecting the face of a person from the image resized by the resizing unit.
