PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of more quickly outputting a prescribed output voltage and having high stability in terms of output voltage, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a piezoelectric transformer 101; a pulse generation block 2054 that generates a driving frequency; a voltage comparison block 2057 that comparatively calculates the output voltage of the piezoelectric transformer 101 and a target output voltage; and a RAM 2052 that stores the target output voltage and the driving frequency generated by the pulse generation block 2054; wherein the driving frequency to be generated by the pulse generation block 2054 is changed based on the comparison result by the voltage comparison block 2057, and then, the piezoelectric transformer 101 is driven at the changed driving frequency, and the changed driving frequency is stored in the RAM 2052. During the image forming operation, the image forming apparatus is controlled so as not to change the driving frequency based on the comparison result by the voltage comparison block 2057, but to drive the piezoelectric transformer 101 at the driving frequency stored in the RAM 2052.
