The mechanism has a striker (12) adjustably arranged in a guide tube (10). A piston (14) actuates the striker by a gas volume (16), where the piston is adjustably arranged on the guide tube. The piston has a piston tube (18) enclosing the guide tube and a piston head (20) closing the guide tube backwards. The piston is guided into a piston guide (24) on the guide tube. The piston is guided into another piston guide (26) in a housing (28) of a handheld power tool e.g. drill hammer. A sealing unit (30) is arranged in the piston or in the guide tube.
