A method for driving a backlight and a display apparatus using the same are provided to change the brightness levels of the backlight gradually. A display apparatus adopting a method for a backlight comprises a backlight(130), a backlight driving unit(133) and a controller(120). The backlight includes plural cathode fluorescent lamps, and the backlight driving unit drives the backlight based on the inputted control voltage. The controller generates the control voltage gradually as to the control voltage and applies the generated control voltage to the backlight driving unit.
