To keep an aluminium melt hot in a hearth furnace or to remelt aluminium scrap in a hearth furnace, at least one burner (15) is provided. The burner (15) is arranged in a burner dome (1) which is located on the furnace roof (7). The burner (15) is aligned relative to the essentially cylindrical burner dome (1) so that the flames and the combustion gases move in a helical path in the burner dome (1) to the opening (9) in the furnace roof (7) above which the burner dome (1) is located. In this way, no flames get into the interior of the hearth furnace and come into contact with the aluminium melt, which results in the advantage that the oxidation of the molten aluminium is reduced and a-alumina formation is also minimized. |
