PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to freely select a lighting load, and allow lighting control in accordance with respective load characteristics by doing without needs for the user to set an illumination device in accordance with the light loads, in a lighting fixture controlling lighting loads by a switching element capable of carrying out phase control. SOLUTION: In the illumination device controlling lighting of lighting loads 1 by a trigger signal sent from a load control part 5 to a switching element (a load driving part 3) in any conductive angle with receipt of an output of a power source phase detecting part 4, the load control part 5 is equipped with a determination part 5a putting ON the switching element at a phase of the conductive angle of a commercial power source AC allowing lighting any of lighting loads (an incandescent lamp, a ballast-free fluorescent lamp, or an LED lamp) during a given period after inputting of the power source, and determining kinds of the lighting loads 1 during that period, and changes over to a given operation mode corresponding to the kind of the lighting load 1 in accordance with the determination result.
