PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly practically useful technology capable of generating a large amount of CO<SB>2</SB>hydrate with a simple constitution and storing it in the sea for isolating carbon dioxide causing global warming in the ocean. SOLUTION: In an underwater storage system of carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide is introduced into a gas hydrate generator 11 installed at a prescribed depth in the sea, carbon dioxide is brought into contact with seawater while regulating the water depth position of the gas hydrate generator 11 by buoyancy due to gas or the like stored in the generator, CO<SB>2</SB>hydrate 50 is generated by using seawater pressure, and the generated CO<SB>2</SB>hydrate 50 is settled and stored in storage parts 81, 82 on the bottom of sea.
