<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-lighting system using a light guide plate having a thickness of 3-5 mm to achieve a total thickness of about 0.7-1 cm and a large and low profile, such as an A1 or B1 size, while preventing the warping of the light guide plate due to the heating of a high-brightness LED. <P>SOLUTION: A panel body 1 using the light guide plate 11 as a shape retaining core material is held at its right and left ends by frame materials 2, while warping preventing materials 3 are arranged at the upper and lower ends thereof. The warping preventing materials 3 consist of sectionally U-shaped transparent edge materials 31 to be fitted to the upper and lower ends of the panel body 1, and metal reinforcing materials 32 each formed by a thick, narrow and long plate material for imparting rigidity to the transparent edge material 31. A sectionally C-shaped receiving groove is formed in each transparent edge material 31 at the opposite side to the panel body 1, and the metal reinforcing material 32 is inserted and arranged into the receiving groove over the total length of the transparent edge material 31.
