<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which enables a shooter to perform shooting on the same shooting environmental conditions without requiring any special holding equipment switching work. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus has an image sensor for converting light made incident through an imaging optical system into a shot image signal and is operable to shoot in a consecutive shooting mode in which a plurality of images are consecutively shot and the shot image signal is produced by one time of the operation of a shutter operation section. The imaging apparatus includes: an operating means for setting a consecutive shooting mode; a flash light generating means; and a flash light generation control means for permitting and prohibiting the generation of flash light by the flash light generating means in response to the operation of the operating means. If the consecutive shooting mode is set by the operating means, first shooting in a state in which the generation of the flash light by the flash light generation control means is permitted and second shooting in a state in which the generation of the flash light by the flash light generation control means is prohibited are consecutively performed in response to one time of the operation of the shutter operation section.
