<p>The device (1) has an airbag (2) inflatable for protecting a person, and blown up by gas produced by igniting a blowing gas charging unit (3). The unit is arranged in the airbag in the form of multiple separately ignitable blowing gas charging parts (8). The unit is activatable by an ignition device, where each blowing gas charging part is assigned to a separate igniter. The igniter includes a ceramic carrier with connection contacts, an ignition bridge and cavities for receiving an oxidant, where the carrier and the charging part are surrounded by a punched, gas-permeable covering.
