An image processing apparatus and a method thereof are provided to display a video with improved quality by performing motion compensation by using an adjacent frame with respect to an area where the number of adjacent blocks is small. An image processing apparatus(100) comprises a first motion compensation unit(10), a second motion compensation unit(20), and a controller(30). A video frame is divided into blocks of a predetermined unit. By using a motion vector of an adjacent block adjacent to a current block, motion compensation for at least a partial area of a current frame is performed. The second motion compensation unit compensates the motion by using the motion vector of the adjacent frame adjacent to the current frame. If the number of the adjacent blocks capable of displaying a video among the adjacent blocks is bigger than a preset value, the controller controls the first motion compensation unit so as to perform motion compensation. If not so, the controller controls the second motion compensation unit so as to perform motion compensation. |
