PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Al-Mg type aluminum alloy for forging which has excellent toughness and combines high strength with high ductility and can be obtained in an as-cast state without requiring heat treatment and also to provide a cast member which is composed of the alloy and has excellent toughness and can be suitably used for body component parts of vehicles etc. SOLUTION: The alloy is characterized in that: it has a composition which consists of, by mass, 2.5 to 5.0% Mg, 0.3 to 1.5% Mn, 0.1 to 0.3% Ti and the balance Al with inevitable impurities and in which Fe as an inevitable impurity is controlled to <0.5%; or further, in the cross section in a position of≤7 mm wall thickness, a porosity area ratio in the region between the surface and a position at a depth of 0.5 mm from the surface inward is≤10%.
