<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a liquid crystal display, inexpensively manufactured as compared with the other displays having the similar function. <P>SOLUTION: In this liquid crystal display 1 including polarizers 11a, 11b, a λ/2 wave plate 12 where a pattern to be displayed is formed by a first region where linearly polarized light is rotated and a second region where linearly polarized light is not rotated is inserted between the polarizer 11a and the polarizer 11b. According to this configuration, the formed pattern can be displayed in no-power supply state only by inserting the λ/2 wave plate where a pattern is formed in the general liquid crystal panel.
