PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation angle detection device and a rotation angle detection method capable of detecting the rotation angle of a rotating shaft with high accuracy over the whole circumference of the rotating shaft. SOLUTION: The device is attached to the rotating shaft R and detects the rotation angle of the rotating shaft R, and includes a first and second magnetic field generating sections 2, 3 which respectively generate a first and second magnetic fields by the use of a pair of magnets 5-8 for each section put side by side in the radial direction of the rotating shaft R and opposed to each other, and rotate together with the rotating shaft R while being arranged in the circumferential direction of the rotating shaft R, and a plurality of magnetic sensors 4a-4d positioned between the rotation trajectory of one magnet 5, 7 in each of the first and second portions 2, 3 and the rotation trajectory of the other magnet 6, 8, and put side by side in the circumferential direction of the rotating shaft R.
