<p>Disclosed herein is an automated analyzer including pipetting means for discharging a sample and reagent into an empty reaction vessel without contact between the leading end of a sample probe and the bottom of the reaction vessel.</p><p>A stepped portion is provided on the outer wall of the sample probe. The sample probe is inserted into the reaction vessel and then stopped when the stepped portion comes in contact with the top edge of the reaction vessel to maintain a fixed gap between the leading end of the sample probe and the bottom of the reaction vessel. The bottom end of a cylindrical portion provided on the outside of the sample pipetting probe can be used as the stepped portion.
