A system is proposed to provide handover in a mobile telecommunications environment, particularly applicable to 3GPP networks, in which a target communications device such as a target node B sends a handover request acknowledgement, including allocation data identifying resources to be persistently allocated for a user equipment (UE), to a source communications device such as a source node B. The source node B includes the data in a handover command to the UE. Alternatively allocated resources can be signaled in a RRC connection change command in response to a handover confirm message from the UE to the target node B. Persistently allocated resources are resources known in advance and provided on a regular basis without additional signaling for applications such as VOIP or streaming. |
