DRIVING METHOD AND DRIVING DEVICE FOR ORGANIC EL PASSIVE MATRIX ELEMENT

Provided are a method and a device for driving an organic EL passive matrix element, which reduce a precharge current thereby to reduce the power consumption. In the method and device, the organic EL passive matrix element is driven by both a column driver having a constant-current circuit and a row driver for changing selected lines sequentially, thereby to set the unselected line of a cathode to a high impedance. Diodes are inserted in parallel on such a side of the row driver as to output a cathode voltage, thereby to prevent the inflow of an electric current in a column direction in all the unselected lines. If MOSFETs are serially connected in place of the diodes in the reverse direction, it is also possible to control the inflow of the electric current in the unselected line in the column direction.
