A restraint system 3 for a vehicle provided with a dashboard with a minimised projection into a front vehicle occupant's space, the restraint system 3 comprising at least one airbag module 7 having an airbag 9 provided with at least one chamber. The airbag module (7, figure 3) is fastenable to a vehicle body structure forming the front vehicle interior. The vehicle body structure onto which the airbag module (7) is fastened may be the windshield crossbeam (6). The restraint system 3 may be provided with a first and second lateral airbag extension the first lateral airbag extension 13 for cushioning in relation to one or more A-columns and a second lateral airbag extension 16 for cushioning in relation to a central consol. The restraint system 3 may be provided with an upper airbag 10 for cushioning in relation to a front roof frame structure. The restraint system 3 may be provided with a leg airbag 14 for cushioning leg/foot extremities. There may be provided a separate airbag module (8) from which deploys the airbag 14. The airbag 9 may comprise a plurality of chambers so as to envelope the entire front contour of a vehicle occupant. |
