PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter cartridge with carbon profile in which water is mechanically filtered by passing the water through a filter element, in a filter housing for pumping water from an aquarium to the filter housing, also to provide a chemical filtration to filter chemicals and organics that can build up in an aquarium water. SOLUTION: The filter cartridge for use in the aquarium water includes a filter element having a chemical filtering medium, which defines a plurality of discrete particles located within the interior of the filter element. A majority of the discrete particles are captured within interstitial spaces of porous filter wall of the filter element to enhance the filtering capacity. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
