Transgenic animal model for alzheimer's disease

Provided is a novel APP (amyloid precursor protein) transgenic non-human animal modeling in vivo the pathophysiological effects and effects on cognitive behavior of early intraneuronal and extracellular brain parenchymal amyloid-beta (Abeta) deposition and cerebral amyloid angiopathy associated with brain microhemorrhages and reduced vasoreactivity and blood flow. Furthermore, methods of screening for therapeutic or diagnostic agents useful in the treatment or diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, in particular for improving blood flow to the brain are provided as well as the corresponding therapeutic methods.
