PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a footstep of an escalator excellent in safety by preventing catching of footwear such as sandals on a side surface of the escalator. SOLUTION: In the footstep of the escalator having a plurality of protrusions 31 extended to an advancing direction of the escalator and a groove 32 between the protrusions 31 on a tread, at least the protrusions 31 previously provided in vertical direction both ends with respect to the advancing direction are removed, and thereby, a plane guide plate attachment surface is formed, and an L-shaped guide plate 21 is attached to the guide plate attachment surface, and the vertex of the guide plate 21 is higher than other protrusions 31 formed in the middle by 10 mm or more.
