<p>Disclosed are: an olefin polymerization catalyst which is free of any polyfunctional aromatic compound, and which has a large particle diameter; and a solid titanium catalyst component (I) for use in the production of the olefin polymerization catalyst. The olefin polymerization catalyst comprises: a solid titanium catalyst component (I) containing titanium, magnesium and a halogen, which is produced by contacting a magnesium compound (A) having a liquid state and having no reductive ability with an ester compound (B) specified by the formula (1) and a liquid titanium compound (C) in a specified order; an organic metal compound (II); and optionally an electron donor (III). (1) wherein R2 and R3 independently represent COOR1 or R, provided that at least one of R2 and R3 represents COOR1; R1 represents a univalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and R's independently represent a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms and the like, provided that at least two of R's may bind to each other to form a ring, wherein the ring may contain a double bond or a hetero atom in its skeleton.</p> |
