<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain pedaling force of a brake pedal without using a load cell. <P>SOLUTION: This brake operating force detection device is provided with an elastic body 41 arranged on a transmission path of pedaling force from the brake pedal 11 to a master cylinder 10 and compressed by the pedaling force; a brake pedal movement amount sensor Sd for detecting the movement amount of the brake pedal 11; a piston movement amount sensor Sc for detecting the movement amount of a piston 32 of the master cylinder 10; and an electronic control unit U for calculating compression amount of the elastic body 41 based on the movement amount of the brake pedal 11 and the movement amount of the piston 32 of the master cylinder 10 and calculating pedaling force based on the compression amount.
