The pedal (1) has a bearing block (4) rotatably hinged at a pedal plate (2) that is formed as a foot step. A damper (5) i.e. plastic-deformable damper, is attached to the pedal. The damper is supplied with force by the plate supported at a foot of a vehicle driver operating the pedal due to a crash event i.e. front crash, and intrusion of the pedal into an interior space of a passenger compartment of a motor vehicle, and the energy is deformably absorbed such that the force introduced in the foot operating the pedal is reduced. The damper comprises polyethylene. The damper has a foam element that is made of plastic foam, metal foam and compound of plastic and/or metal foams. A force distributing plate of the pedal is made of metal and/or plastic.
