A data conversion method, data conversion device, data recording device, data playing device, and a computer program are provided to record large amount of data without exceeding the maximum number of clips in format regulation while processing copy in AVCHD format or BDAV format. A video camera inputs copy source data. A clip adjustment unit acquires copy source clip configuration data including a streaming data of the copy object from copy source data. The clip adjustment unit sets up one clip as a copy destination clip which includes a plurality of copy source clips configuration data corresponding to a play item within a play list file defined as a copy source format.
