ICE MAKER FOR REFRIGERATOR AND METHOD FOR OPERATING THE SAME

An ultrasonic sensor mounted ice maker and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent the ice being overflow from an ice bank. An ice maker for a refrigerator comprises: an ice tray(100) making the ice with the water supplied from a water supply part; a heater(120) applying the heat on the ice in order to separate the ice from the ice tray; an ice bank(160) storing the ice separated from the ice bank; an ice separating lever(130) dropping the ice separated from the ice tray to the ice bank; and an ultrasonic sensor(150) for measuring the height of the ice stored in the ice bank. The ultrasonic sensor transmits an ultrasonic signal to the ice in the ice bank and receives the ultrasonic signal reflected from the ice.
