861,070. Tuning cavity resonators. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. Sept. 1, 1958 [Sept. 6, 1957], No. 28030/58. Class 40 (8). A tuning arrangement for the output cavity 2 of a klystron comprises a probe 5 frictionally held within a bearing surface 6 of the cavity 2 and a resilient threaded member 11. The probe 5 is in the form of a tube of resilient material, e.g. beryllium copper, and is deformed at its lower end into a square cross-section having flattened corners which bear against a phosphor bronze bush 6. At its upper end the probe is secured within a screw 7 by means of a cylindrical insert 8 which is expanded against the inside of the probe by a ball 9. The screw 7 is threaded into a resilient mounting sleeve 11 which is secured to the exterior of the cavity. The sleeve 11 is made from a thin walled tube, of e.g. nickel, which is deformed to the shape shown in Fig. 4 in such a manner that it exerts considerable pressure on the screw 7. Only those portions of the sleeve 11 which contact the screw need be threaded. The distance between the threaded portion of the sleeve 11 and the bush 6 is greater than the diameter of the screw 7. Specifications 810,327 and 861,069 are referred to. |
