The invention associates or inserts advertisements, such as banner adverts, with or into Web and wireless application protocol (WAP) pages delivered from internet or mobile services 24, 26 to mobile or fixed terminals 14 via a communications network 16, 22. An intermediate box 36 which may comprise, or be resident in, a router, a proxy, a gateway, a sever or other network element involved in routing internet communications, analyses communications related to browsing being directed to terminals 14 and modifies part of the communications to include associated advertisements on Web or WAP pages. Intermediate box 36 may be programmed to insert adverts by adding a frame to an XHTML page, adding a static banner XHTML snippet, adding a dynamic banner XHTML snippet or a dynamic banner injection script generated by JavaScript code, adding an interstitial page, or a replacement or interstitial link. The invention aims to subsidise mobile phone telecommunications services by providing advertisements directed to subscribers. |
