A network monitoring system for monitoring a communication network including a plurality of communication devices is disclosed. The network monitoring system includes a traffic volume acquisition means for acquiring a transmitted traffic volume and a received traffic volume of each port from each of the plurality of communication devices; a port traffic determining means for determining, for the each port of the each of the communication devices, whether or not it has the transmitted traffic volume equal to or higher than a predetermined threshold value as well as the received traffic volume equal to or higher than a predetermined threshold value; a loop path extraction means for extracting, from a connected path information storing means for storing connected path information of the communication network, a connected path of a port which is determined to have the transmitted traffic volume equal to or higher than the predetermined threshold value as well as the receiving traffic volume equal to or higher than the predetermined threshold value; and an output means for outputting the information on the connected path of the port.
