<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical head performing high-density information recording by using a small optical spot of a roughly circular shape, and to provide an optical recording device equipped with the same. <P>SOLUTION: The optical head using light for recording information in a recording medium is provided with a planar waveguide 18A, and a spot-size conversion part 19 for reducing the mode field diameter of light converged by the planar waveguide 18A. The spot size conversion part 19 includes a two-dimensional waveguide.
