<p>The closing device (10) comprises a closing cylinder (actuator, ram) (11), a rapid-approach double lever-articulation system (12) articulated between the piston (16) of this cylinder and the moving platen (5) of the press, and an approach cylinder (13) whose body is connected to the piston of the closing cylinder and whose piston rod (24) is connected to the linkage system. The approach cylinder (13) is housed coaxially in the piston (16) of the closing cylinder (11) and its piston rod is connected to an intermediate point on the rear connecting rod (19) of each articulated-lever system via a link (28), and forms a limit-stop element for each articulated-lever system at the end of extension travel of the approach cylinder.
