PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of an inferior operability that a nozzle pipe disposed in the inside is used in a state of being fully pulled out of a nozzle pipe disposed in the outside and in a state of being retracted into the nozzle pipe disposed outside, and the length of the suction device cannot be changed freely. SOLUTION: This suction device 200 of a vacuum cleaner is provided with an outer pipe 210 having a ventilation passage in its inside and an inner pipe 220 slidably inserted into the outer pipe and having a ventilation passage in its inside, and is extended/contracted by taking in/out the inner pipe relative to the outer pipe, wherein the outer pipe and the inner pipe are so configured that the cross section of each ventilation passage orthogonal to the flowing direction of air is substantially rectangular and each pipe has two side faces 222 becoming the long sides of the rectangle and formed along the longitudinal direction of a pipe, and an upper face 223a and a lower face 223b becoming the short sides of the rectangle and formed along the longitudinal direction of the pipe, the external outer face of the upper face or the lower face of the inner pipe is formed with a plurality of groove portions longitudinally and the lower face of the upper face or the lower face of the outer pipe has engagement portions 233 to be engaged with the groove portions.
