PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a state detector of a tape for belt loop which can discriminate and detect the twist part and joint part of the tape for belt loop. SOLUTION: This state detector 15 of the tape for belt loop is disposed in a tape-for-belt-loop carrier 14 for carrying the tape 6 for belt loop to a sewing machine, and is provided with a pair of thickness detection means 18a and 18b disposed to be made away from each other in a carrying direction at the upper part of the tape 6 for belt loop on a carrying route, and the state of the tape 6 for belt loop passing through the lower part of the pair of thickness detection means 18a and 18b, that is one of the twist part 13, the joint part 11 and a normal part, is judged by a control part 21 on the basis of the combination of abnormality detection signals respectively acquired by the pair of thickness detection means 18a and 18b.
