A sand and gravel washing process consists of a number of stations. In the intake stage material over a predetermined size is removed from a feed stream at a dry screening stage (2), and is removed for crushing at a crushing station (42), prior to being recycled (3) into the feed stream. Material that passes through dry screening stage (2) is sent to an initial wet screening stage (5) where it is screened and washed, and oversize material is sent to the crushing station (42) for recycle. Undersize material is sent to a washing drum (45) which abrades contaminant material from the sand and gravel. A further screening station separates out sized gravel and delivers it to storage stations, while sand is sorted into two sizes and passed to sand storage stations. Residual fine sand and water are fed to a cyclone (63) for fine sand recovery. The separated fine sand is then sent to a fine sand screen (64) to further remove water. The resultant water is then fed to a settling station. |
