The device has a displacement unit for vertically displacing a bonnet with respect to a support (20) of a body shell of a motor vehicle between a closed position and a lowered position. The displacement unit has deformation lines (L1, L2) placed on a fixed knuckle (12). An oblong opening (21) is provided on the structure. A mobile knuckle (11) is displaced through the opening for pivoting the bonnet towards the bottom during impact with a pedestrian. The dimension of the opening is complementary to that of a rear part of the mobile knuckle.
