Diversion system for foul flush of storm water runoff

A method of diverting fluid from a runoff event on a catchment area is disclosed. The system ensures that the first flush of contaminated water is diverted away from a storage system. The method consists of: (a) Collecting fluid from the catchment area into a collection chamber (2). The collection chamber (2) including a partition (8) forming a first chamber (9) containing an inlet (3) and a first outlet (6) to a first outlet system, and a second chamber (10) containing a second outlet (11) to a second outlet system, wherein the height of the partition is not less than a cut-off height and less than the height of the collection chamber (2). (b) Allowing the fluid to flow to a diversion system in the first chamber (9). (c) Diverting via the diversion system an initial volume of the fluid into the first outlet system. (d) Continuing to divert fluid into the first outlet system if a flow rate of the fluid into the collection chamber (9) is below a pre-set rate. (e) Subsequently diverting the fluid into the second outlet system if the flow rate of fluid into the collection chamber (9) exceeds the pre-set rate by closing the first outlet (6) when the fluid level in the first chamber (9) reaches the cut-off height and allowing the fluid to flow into the second chamber (10) and out through the second outlet (11).
