A wireless sensor network system and method for improving energy efficiency of a sensor node by using a base station are provided to lengthen the duration of a wireless sensor network and guarantee a whole area synchronization. A sensor node(110) senses an ambient situation. A base station(120) controls the sensor node. The base station recognizes a location of the sensor node and an identifying unit, executes a coverage calculation to discriminate a sleep node included in the range obtained by adding sensing areas of other sensor nodes in which an overall sensing area is included, and makes the sleep node sleep. The base station acquires the location of the sensor node and the identifying unit from a database associated with the sensor node or a server. The base station extracts a stop node which has used up energy among the sensor nodes and wakes up the sleep node that can substitute the stop node. The base station covers a sensing area of the stop node with the sleep node to be awaken. |
