[Also in Group XXV] A blind rivet comprises a hollow body 12 having a flange 13 at one end and in the bore of the rivet is disposed a frangible pin having a head 1 and a shaft 9 which is adapted to be broken off from the head, the rivet body increasing in thickness from a minimum at the closure end 11 to a maximum at a point between the closure end and the flange to provide at said point a reduced diameter part 12a in the rivet bore and the head of one pin presents a convex surface 3 to the closure end of the rivet which may be toothed or castellated as at 10. The pin has a shank part 5, a tapered part 8 and grooves 4 and 6. A rivet for use in a blind hole 18 in a structural member 14<1> (Figs. 5 and 7) comprises a tubular body 12 having a flangable end 13 and also an external flange 16 intermediate the rivet ends 10 and 13. The bore of the rivet is cylindrical at the end 13 and this cylindrical part connects through a bulged bore portion 12b with the remaining tapered portion 12c to provide a reduced diameter part 12a in the bore. The elongated closure end of the rivet is externally serrated as at 15. In this embodiment the head of the pin has a flattened domeshaped configuration. |
