PROJECTION TYPE VIDEO DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display device for enhancing reliability of a polarizing device and improving optical characteristics such as color unevenness by reducing the thermal effect to a video display device even in a high-temperature environment in which the temperature of a polarizing glass rises because light quantity absorbed by the polarizing glass increases as the luminance becomes higher.

SOLUTION: The projection type video display device comprises: a light unit of emitting light; the video display device of modulating the light from the light unit into an optical image; an incident side polarizing device arranged on the incident side of the video display element; an emission side polarizing device of constituting a crossed nicols state together with the incident side polarization device: and a projection lens unit of projecting light from the emission side polarizing device. The emission side polarizing device has a polarizing layer disposed on a first principal plane to which the light from the video display device is made incident and has no polarizing layer on a second principal plane which faces the first principal plane and emits light.
