SPRING RETAINER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spring retainer which has high stiffness and high fatigue strength in spite of being formed wholly from sheet metal and further can be trimmed in weight to the utmost extent. SOLUTION: A cylinder 2 and a spring receiving flange 3 of the spring retainer 1 are formed integrally from the sheet metal. An outer circumferential side against which an upper end of the valve spring in the spring receiving flange 3 abuts is kept in a horizontal position so as to be higher than an inner circumferential side of a base portion and then is bent upward. As a result, an annular guide 8 erecting upward is formed in an intermediary portion of the spring receiving flange 3. A coupling portion 9 of the cylinder 2 and the spring receiving flange 3 is made larger than the thickness of the cylinder 2 and an outer circumferential surface 10 at the corners of the coupling portion 9 is made into a nearly circular-arch-shaped curve.
