PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for discriminating mill ends by which reusable mill ends are stored in an exclusive mill end stocker, the convenience for taking out when being reused is served and judgement of whether or not the mill ends must be stored in the mill end stockyard is properly performed. SOLUTION: After performing cutting work for cutting out a product metal plate w from the metal plate W of a base stock with a plate working machine, the discrimination of classification of either the mill ends WA is to be stored in the mill end stockyard or it is to be carried out as a waste material is performed according to a predetermined rule by automatically discriminating means. As this predetermined rule, one or a plurality of discrimination items of the yield of the mill ends WA, the area of the effective area of the mill ends WA, the weight and the whole area are used.
