PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element capable of forming a zone of a substrate for disturbing a reflected angle and a refractive angle and displaying suitable light-emitting characteristics. SOLUTION: A distance d between a light-emitting point on a light-emitting layer and a light reflective electrode is represented by an expression (1). Here,λ<SB>1</SB>is an emission light wavelength showing the maximum value of the product of a spectrum radiation flux and the standard CIE relative luminosity. A refractive index of a layer between the light-emitting point and a light reflective electrode is denoted by n. The refractive index and an extinction coefficient at the wavelengthλ<SB>1</SB>of a layer brought into contact with the light reflective electrode are denoted by n<SB>1</SB>and k<SB>1</SB>respectively. A refractive index and an extinction coefficient of the light reflective electrode are denoted by n<SB>2</SB>and k<SB>2</SB>respectively. The number a satisfies a relationship of 1.28<a≤-5.56×n<SB>org</SB>/n<SB>EML</SB>+7.74. A refractive index of a layer brought into contact with the light-emitting layer at a light reflective electrode side is denoted by n<SB>org</SB>.
