PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit to be used in a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: The back light unit includes a plurality of light emitting elements and a control unit. The control unit is electrically connected with the light emitting elements, and controls the intensity of light emitted by each light emitting element on the basis of the screen video data received by a pixel. When the screen video data is red, green or blue, the control unit can control each light emitting element individually, the emitted red light, green light or blue light is made maximum intensity, and a color region of red, green or blue of the liquid crystal display is made to expand.
