PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for electric double-layer capacitor wherein generation of gas owing to degradation of a solvent when in long-term use is suppressed, and also to provide an electric double-layer capacitor wherein deterioration of electrostatic capacity and internal resistance after long-term use is reduced by using the electrolyte so that superior long term reliability is acquired. SOLUTION: This invention provides: the electrolyte for electric double-layer capacitor which is prepared by adding a calcium borate to a solution made by dissolving a quaternary ammonium salt in an aprotic polar solvent; and the electric double-layer capacitor provided by using the electrolyte.
