An input unit for an information device and an input method thereof are provided to enable a use to clearly recognize a desired character, number or special character on the smaller area by utilizing square input units. A cover(210) is materially formed in the square. At least two or more sensors are respectively formed in a lower part of the cover to sense the input on a specific region of the cover. The sensors are at least two or more button switches. A key event generating unit produces a key event corresponding to the input, applied on the specific regions, by the combination of specific regions sensed by the sensors. That is, it combines inputs of the button switches to generate the key event corresponding to the input of a specific region.
