<p>High-melting substances capable of being spun, e.g polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate or a polyamide, are spin-dyed using a perylene tetracarboxylic acid diimide of the general formula <FORM:0886932/IV (a)/1> in which Rerepresents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aryl residue, which may be substituted by non-water-solubilizing substituents. The perylene residue may be substituted, e.g. by a chlorine atom or a methoxy group. In Example 1, a polyamide is used prepared from hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid and, in the form of chippings, is "bread-crumbed" with the dyestuffs and the clippings spun, e.g. by the grid spinning process.
